SmartEngine reviews your certificate against state-specific movement requirements in real time, helping you catch issues early and reduce the risk of rework, delays, or compliance complaints.
Currently supported species:
- Equine
- Bovine
- Swine
- Caprine (goats)
- Ovine (sheep)
- Canine (dogs)
- Feline (cats)
For species not listed above, SmartEngine compliance evaluation is not currently available. You should contact the state of destination to confirm movement requirements prior to issuing the CVI.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Toggle SmartEngine ON at the top of the CVI creation page before completing your certificate.
- When enabled, SmartEngine will automatically evaluate movement requirements when you preview the CVI.
- Complete the CVI as usual, entering all required animal and movement details.
- Click Preview & sign
- The “GVL SmartEngine movement requirements” modal will appear.
- Green check mark = Passed
- Red x = Failed/Needs attention
- Review any failed or flagged requirements and update the certificate as needed.
- Click Preview & Sign again to re-run the SmartEngine compliance check.
- When all requirements pass, you will see green check marks next to each requirement.
- Review the certificate one final time
- Sign the certificate, knowing it has been evaluated for interstate compliance
Important Notes
- SmartEngine evaluates interstate movement requirements for supported species only (equine, bovine, swine, caprine, ovine, canine, and feline).
- For species not currently supported, you must manually confirm requirements with the state of destination prior to signing the CVI.
- Always complete all required fields and include any additional documentation required by the destination state.
