What's changing for my clinic with the new MyVetLink?

The core process for managing clients stays the same — you'll still add contacts, provide their email addresses, and grant MVL access to send them an invitation to create or log in to their account. What's new is that MVL users now have more self-service capabilities, including the ability to update certain information and add animals directly. Your team will have visibility into these changes and can approve or decline them before they take effect.

Can MVL users edit animal and contact records?

Yes, but only certain fields. Here's a quick breakdown:

  • Animal fields MVL users can update without clinic approval: Name, Breed, DOB, Age, Color
  • Animal fields that require clinic approval: Gender, Type of ID, ID Number, ID Implant Date, New IDs, Images, Record Deletion
  • Owner/Agent fields MVL users can update without clinic approval: Cell Phone, Location Name, Address, State/Province, ZIP/Postal Code, Country
  • Fields MVL users cannot edit at all: Species, Markings, Role, Name fields, Email, Organization Name

How will my clinic know when an MVL user has made a change?

When a clinic user opens an animal record that has pending changes, an approval modal will appear before the record loads. It will clearly show what was changed and whether the request is for an edit, a new animal, or a record deletion. You won't be forced through this workflow if you're just quickly referencing a record — you'll have the option to dismiss it and come back later.

What does the approval process look like?

It depends on the type of change:

  • Animal edited: You'll see a side-by-side comparison of the old and new values. You can approve or decline changes individually, or use "Approve all" / "Decline all." Only approved changes are applied; declined fields revert to their original values in both the clinic system and MVL.
  • Animal added: You'll see a modal with the new animal's details and owner/contact info. From there, you can open the animal drawer to review and edit before proceeding.
  • [Coming Soon]Animal deletion: You'll see the reason the MVL user provided, and can approve or decline. If approved, the record is flagged as deleted but retained for audit purposes. If declined, the animal stays in your system and in the MVL user's account.

Where will these approval modals appear?

They'll surface in two places: the animal list and the certificate creation workflow when an animal with pending changes is selected.

What happens in MVL while a change is pending?

MVL users will see their requested changes immediately in their account with a "Pending clinic approval" badge. If the clinic declines the change, the data automatically reverts to the original values in their MVL account.

Can MVL users add new animals to my clinic?

Yes. If an MVL user adds an animal and selects your clinic, that animal will appear in your animal list. You'll see a notification modal the next time you open that animal record or encounter it during certificate creation, at which point you can review and update the details before proceeding.
