Once you have selected your drug, production class, and indication when creating a VFD, you will be prompted to enter in a dosage for the drug selected in the Feed concentration field.
If you need assistance calculating the dosage, you can click the “Use dosage calculator” button at the bottom of the dosage field.
Once you select the “Use dosage calculator” button, it will open a drawer from the right. The dosage calculator may be used by entering either Average Daily Feed Intake as “As Fed” or as “Dry Matter Basis”. Select which option you would like to use.
Calculate using ADFI (as fed)
If you select to “Calculate using ADFI (as fed)”, you will need to enter the estimated Average Daily Feed Intake (ADFI) on an as-fed basis in pounds or kilograms. Depending on the drug you select, you may also be prompted to enter the animal’s weight in pounds or kilograms. After entering this information, you can choose to share the calculations with the feed mill by checking the box below the ADFI (as fed) box. Note: This will only share the calculations if the feed mill has a GVL account login.
Once the information required (those marked with the red asterisks) is entered, the system will calculate the dosage in g/ton at the bottom of the screen. You can choose to “Use the calculated dosage” and it will automatically fill the g/ton box on the VFD draft. There is an option to go back if you do not want to use the dosage calculated.
Calculate using ADFI (dry matter)
If you select “Calculate using ADFI (dry matter)”, you will need to enter the Dry matter intake (DMI) in pounds or kilograms and the Dry Matter percentage. Depending on the drug you select, you may also be prompted to enter the animal’s weight in pounds or kilograms. After entering this information, you can choose to share the calculations with the feed mill by checking the box below the dry matter percentage box. Note: This will only share the calculations if the feed mill has a GVL account login.
Once the information required is entered, the system will calculate the dosage in g/ton at the bottom of the screen. You can choose to “Use the calculated dosage” and it will automatically fill the g/ton box on the VFD draft. There is an option to go back if you do not want to use the dosage calculated.
