Update to EIA Reason for Test Options for Canadian Users

To ensure compliance with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) requirements, we are updating the options in the "Reason for test" dropdown when completing an Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) test certificate through GlobalVetLink.

What is changing?

The free-type text box for the "Reason for test" on Canadian EIA certificates has been removed from our platform. Users will now need to select a reason from a dropdown menu of approved options.

Why is this change being made?

This change is being implemented at the request of the CFIA to standardize the data collected and ensure that all EIA test certificates meet their requirements.

What do I need to do?

When you are completing a Canadian EIA test certificate, you will now be required to select a "Reason for test" from the provided dropdown list. The options in this list are compliant with CFIA regulations.

What are the updated options?

  • Clinical signs and/or suspected exposure - EIA testing is based upon a veterinarian’s and/or owner’s suspicion of EIA
  • Event requirement - For entry to an organized equine event, such as a competition or exhibition
  • Export or travel to USA/Mexico - Applies to both temporary and permanent exports
  • Facility/farm surveillance - Testing for entry to a facility (e.g., for boarding, training, breeding), or routine on-farm surveillance. Does not include testing for an event requirement
  • Transfer of ownership - Includes pre-purchase examinations

We understand that this change may require a small adjustment to your workflow, and we appreciate your cooperation in helping us ensure your certificates meet these critical regulatory requirements.
